Profile
Forest and Field Landscape Architecture is an award-winning landscape architecture and urban design studio located in downtown Toronto.
Matthew Sweig and Michelle Lazar founded Forest and Field in 2014 out of a desire to create remarkable, well designed public spaces for the people that use them, no matter the scale or budget. Fundamental to their designs is an understanding of the site rooted in a love of the outdoors.
We begin each project with a thorough identification, analysis, and acute awareness of the site’s natural environment. By creating sustainable design strategies that reveal and accentuate the larger existing ecological systems, our approach has proven to strengthen the site’s functionality both on site and within the greater context. Our elegant application of materials enables us to create infrastructure and built objects that work in synergy with natural systems. The landscapes become a contemporary and sustainable platform connecting you with the natural world.
FFLA is a full-service, award-winning landscape architecture and urban design studio, serving public and private clients. The typologies of our projects include streetscapes, civic spaces, public parks and playgrounds, school grounds, campuses, childcare spaces, commercial, shelter housing, and multi-unit residential.

"Forest and Field Landscape Architecture worked tirelessly with great creativity and attention to detail to produce an award-winning design, and saw it through to the conclusion of the project's construction. Personally, and on behalf of the board of the Baby Point BIA, I'd like to thank Forest and Field for the amazing design of The Gardens, and their critical role in transforming that corner."

"It has been my great pleasure to collaborate and be on design teams with Matthew Sweig and Michelle Lazar of Forest and Field Landscape Architects. They are a team with encyclopedic knowledge of all things related to landscape/cityscape design and public spaces and are tireless in doing what it takes to move a project forward. Their inventive design sense and quick response to the demands of tight deadlines have made them ideal partners on the complex projects we have worked on together. In the future when I need the services of a landscape architect, they are my first call."
