Pollinator Habitat
Forest and Field worked with the area’s conservation authorities to design a new immersive pollinator garden designed to be an accessible interactive educational space for all ages. The previously forested site area of a ravine system had been destroyed by Emerald Ash Borer. The resulting concept has been widely approved and will be implemented in 2022. The design includes an accessible pathway leading north/south through the existing park. The new park feature will be bordered by a post and paddle fence, featuring a low boardwalk and granular trail winding through from end to end. Educational signage will describe the benefits of native plants and their links to pollinator species. A bird’s-eye-view reveals that the shape of the garden evokes the image of a canoe, reflecting the popularity of the Butterfly Canoe Gardens by the David Suzuki Foundation.
