A Child Care and Early Years Act Licensing Standards compliant renovation of the 1500 sq.m. outdoor space involved maximizing the usable space while achieving compliance with the current standards. The work was completed in tandem with architectural renovations to the building by the project lead, Architects Rasch Eckler Associates Ltd. Architects, at this City of Toronto Child Care Centre in a Toronto Community Housing site. Forest and Field Landscape Architecture Inc. designed a plan to reconfigure the existing playground to accommodate more naturalization, tree planting, and amenities. Two complete areas for toddlers and preschool-age children were maintained with comparable amenities that included a variety of built and natural shade. Construction was completed in two phases in 2019/2020.
