In 2018, FFLA completed a fresh new playground for Don Valley Village in north east Toronto. Surrounded by a neighbourhood full of children and families, the consultation had to give them a strong role in what went into the new playground. So, that’s what we did. On a beautiful summer day, we held the community meeting where kids coloured in the play equipment in the colours they wanted. That is what you see built today, along with updated circulation routes OADA compliance; selected updated play equipment; new benches and a new covered pavilion for picnics and gatherings. Drainage issues were addressed with the addition of a soakaway pit around the play area connected to the nearby catchbasin. A culvert under the new pathway allows an existing swale to continue to channel water also to the catchbasin. This new outdoor space is seeing a lot more use.
